We would like to spell the advantages of using a LCB or Linear current booster. LCB will boosts the current from the solar array by lowering the voltage (remember P=UxI where P is the total Watt output of the solar panel. In this case if the volts go down the amps are jacking up) This enables the pump to run in low light conditions: mornings, evening, cloudy sky. In the same time LCB will creates a clean break in the power circulating from the array to the pump. Without an LCB an array can be producing some energy to the pump motor, but not enough to run the motor which creates arcing in the motor. That will wear out the motor. LCBs establish a logical condition for that motor, it will not allow energy to the motor unless there is enough to make the motor actually run.
Linear current boosters (LCB) are used in solar direct pumping applications. They can achieve a 30-90 percent increase in water pumped over connecting the pump directly to the solar modules. You can special order 90V units that can operate 12-,24-, 36- and 48-volt pumps from several modules in series. This will be useful where the panels must be a long distance from the motor, allowing wiring with a smaller wire size as the current is reduced. The wire savings alone can easily pay for the controller.

LCB LOCATION Install the LCB in the shade of the mid-day sun, to prevent excessive heat. Make a sheet-metal shade if necessary. If the pump must be located a long distance from the PV array, the LCB should be installed near the pump. This will minimize wire losses. PV ARRAY SIZING To assure full pump performance and good starting in low light conditions, the PV array must be rated for power output (watts) at least 20% greater than the power requirement of the pump. Refer to the specifications for your pump. Further over-sizing the PV array will improve low light performance (only) and will not damage the system. Up to 2X oversize is acceptable WARNING - The fuse supplied with your LCB may NOT be the right one for your application. You may need to replace it with one of lower amperage rating, as required by the pump manufacturer. Failure to do so may void the warranty of your pump.
