A photovoltaic (PV) plant transforms directly and instan­taneously solar energy into electrical energy without us­ing any fuels. As a matter of fact, the photovoltaic (PV) technology exploits the photoelectric effect, through which some semiconductors suitably “doped” generate electricity when exposed to solar radiation. 

When passing through the atmosphere, the solar radiation diminishes in intensity because it is partially reflected and absorbed (above all by the water vapor and by the other atmospheric gases). The radiation which passes through is partially diffused by the air and by the solid particles suspended in the air.

The annual electrical power output of a PV plant depends on different factors. Among them:

Solar radiation incident on the site; 
Working temperature and shading. ( shading or soiling it is generated by wind caring dirt over the panel surface); inclination and orientation of the panels; technical performances of the plant components

To avoid an excessive reduction in the performances, it is opportune to keep under control the service temperature trying to give the panels good ventilation to limit the temperature variation on them. In this way it is possible to reduce the loss of energy owing to the temperature (in comparison with the temperature of 25°C under standard conditions) to a value around 7%.

Using a weather station with appropriate  sensors  connected to it  will allow us  to predict  the PV Plant performance and forecast the way the solar panels will react to weather conditions. In this way we can correctly monitor the power generation quality during the time plant it is up and functional.
