    Lead acid batteries maintenance:-

Trojan Tips 4 - Expand Your Battery Charging "Know-How".

    Battery maintenance program:-

Batteries need to be fully charged. That will maximize battery pasive life span. They usually discharge during storage therefore it's important to charge them after every use and make sure that they are full charged when they will be called in service.
Make sure that battery connections are tight.
Make sure that there's an adequate amount of electrolyte over the surface of the plates, obviously this is valid just for flooded batteries. If there's not enough water over the surface of the plates we should replentish. At a low level of the electrolyt, the battery starts an ireversible chimical process to depleete the electrodes.
Unless you are doing opportunity charging you should never charge a frozen battery.
Flooded batteries need to be overcharged to avoid stratification of the electrolyte and that should occur with every charge cycle which is controlled by external charger. Lead acid batteries do not have a memory therefore they don't need to be fully discharged before recharge.
Equalization it is performed on flooded batteries after they have been fully charged. This is conducted to reverse the build-up chemical on the plates' surface known as stratification.
