  • Wind Data Loggers

    solar powered wind data logger

A wind generator requires a minimum wind velocity (called cut-in speed) of 3-5 m/s and delivers the nameplate capacity at a wind velocity of 12-14 m/s. At high speeds, usually exceeding 25 m/s (called cut-off speed) the wind turbine is blocked by the mechanical braking system for safety reasons. From the electric stand point the wind turbine will stay connected to the dummy load where it will dump all the residual energy left inside coils. The wind speed and the gust are normal parameters measured by the wind data logger and allow the overload controller (the external protection box mounted before the wind inverter) to dump the energy on the dummy load and protect the installation.

Wind data loggers are dealing with following set of values:

Wind speed: Units dictated by calibration.
Gust: Maximum wind speed during interval.
     Pulse Count: Rotations during interval.
     Wind Direction.
     Temperature.

Wind direction values are helping us to readjust the blades pitch to improve the overall efficiency. The small portable wind data loggers are handy for site evaluation, they are good companion for any commission engineer and wind turbine installer. They do leverage the ability to proper adjust the system before energizing the installation.
