Active PV Solar System - Basic Principles

Living off the gird or tied to the grid and generating energy based on solar irradiation requires that you must asses your resources before you proceed and install the equipment. The most complex becomes the off grid living. In this case you have to supply all energy yourself and to make this available during the period of time when no resources are available to harness. The most common cases are when you want to retrofit a solar thermo installation or a solar photovoltaic system to an existing dwelling. Some of the factors are to be considered before you give the go ahead and try to deep into tax appetizers.

• Is the dwelling suitable to solar installations?
• What is the desired power the customer is targeting?

• What is the approximate payback for the system you want to install? In this case is very important to estimate the return [ROI] you want to achieve and to consider if any tax aspects are to be looked after.
• What planning permissions are needed?  Check with the local utility services is the best bed and will get the most accurate information. At the end of this project they have to issue the licencencing  and based on this you can deep in the tax appetizers.

Off grid site assessment.

The first question: when we need an off grid solar system?

Beside the remote locations where the utility companies do not have a feed in present and off grid becomes  a unique alternative, we have situations when off grid is a sustainable solution for grid outage, frequent power interruptions and disturbance generating  lost in production of any kind, or lost in communication and lost in information traffic.In this situations we recommend as a viable solution an off grid pv system connected before a local present generator. That will place the diesel based generator as a last resource keeping the system connected in grid conditions, in a very inexpensive mode. In some situations we do not have or we do not need a local diesel generator. The off grid photovoltaic system will cover the energy need for critical load for a certain period of time.

Off grid monitoring solutions.

In case of an off grid solutions based on the nature of energy generation, a constant monitoring of the energy resources has to be regularly performed. A very special attention require the battery bank, where we must check periodical the battery level and their status. Are there incentives or grants for off grid solar installations available?

In most of the case when we have a grid already present and the off grid solution is working together with the grid system it has to be no problem. For all other situations federal grants for rural area and local state incentives are available differentiating from state to state and for the type of technology are applicable.
